91-year-old fast food chain dishes out $5 in Bitcoin for Halloween

Bitcoin (BTC) adoption is taking another bite out of the mainstream economy. On Oct. 31, iconic American restaurant chain Steak ’n Shake announced the launch of a new rewards deal for customers who select Bitcoin-themed meals.

Now, customers can get $5 in Bitcoin when they order the Steak ‘n Shake Bitcoin Meal or Bitcoin Steakburger.

The rewards program was announced in partnership with Fold Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: FLD), the Bitcoin financial services company behind the Fold App.

Fold App is a Bitcoin-focused financial platform that lets users earn, save, and spend Bitcoin (BTC) through everyday purchases. The app offers a Visa-powered debit card, Bitcoin rewards, and direct BTC transactions, aiming to make Bitcoin accessible and practical for mainstream users while bridging traditional finance and digital assets.

“Bitcoin goes mainstream when it starts showing up in everyday life,” Fold CEO Will Reeves told reporters. “That’s been our vision from the beginning, and this promotion with Steak ’n Shake is the next step in that journey. For many people, this will be the first time they ever own Bitcoin — and it will come from something as ordinary as grabbing a burger.”

Fold says this campaign is the first of several mainstream partnerships it plans to roll out over the coming months as it continues to integrate Bitcoin into everyday financial experiences.

How to avail Bitcoin rewards

Beginning Oct. 31, diners across roughly 400 Steak ’n Shake locations in the United States can avail the rewards.

Customers can visit bitcoinmealdeal.com, upload their receipt, and receive a redemption code for $5 in Bitcoin through the Fold app.

Once users download the Fold app and create an account, they can claim their Bitcoin and continue earning BTC on future purchases. Each customer is limited to one redemption per promotion, which will run while supplies last.

Burger for Bitcoin

On May 16, the 91-year-old restaurant chain expanded its payment options worldwide to include Bitcoin (BTC) transactions through the Lightning Network.

The fast-food brand has long enjoyed strong support within the Bitcoin community. However, when it once floated the idea of introducing Ethereum (ETH) payments, the proposal sparked fierce criticism from Bitcoin maximalists, prompting the company to abandon the plan.

The chain launched a limited-edition Bitcoin Steakburger on Oct. 16 to celebrate five months of it beginning to accept Bitcoin payments.
